Deena Spellman, Professional Gardener


A Texas State graduate with a B.S. in Botany and an Associate Degree in Horticulture, Spellman has recently celebrated her 21st anniversary as a professional in the field of gardening. She operates Bastrop Botanical Gardens which includes a Labyrinth registered in the United Kingdom Registry, a landscape company, Heirloom Tea Room, and a nursery. All are open Thursday - Saturday from 10 - 4, Sunday from noon - 4, and by scheduled appointment where she especially enjoys sharing her extensive knowledge with small groups of like-minded gardeners.

Vegetative Propagation Techniques

Learn and experience the different ways to create plants via vegetative propagation techniques. Techniques for air layering, leaf and stem cuttings, root pieces and separation will be shared, supplies provided and one of each variety propagated will be yours to take. Demonstration Free, participation is $15.00 total for materials and plants.

Culinary Herbs to Enhance Pond Gardens

Deena Spellman is delighted to be speaking to The Austin Pond Society this fall on Monday, October 21st. The topic will be "Culinary Herbs to Enhance Pond Gardens". She will share the combined uses of Herbs for both Gardening and Culinary purposes around our Pond Gardens. Teaching how the Herbs enhance both Gardening and Cooking at the same time. The Austin Pond Society meeting will be October 21st, 7pm, Zilker Botanical Gardens, Austin, Texas. Great Information will be shared.

At the March meeting of the Spring Lake Garden Club, Deena Spellman gave a presentation on culinary herbs and their uses. She explored herb gardening from the perspective of one’s personal food choices and gave instruction in creating and grouping beds, their care and gardening tips.

Wicking Boxes - A Solution for Busy Gardeners

A hands on demonstration of the building of Wicking boxes. This is a DIY class with supplies available for a $15.00 fee to follow along and create your own 1'x2' Wicking box to take with you. You may build a box, or come for the information. We look forward to sharing this information with our fellow gardeners.
